Embassy of Estonia at the EU Open House 2026!

Welcome to Estonia! Step inside our 120-year-old home on Embassy Row, where classic American architecture meets bright, modern Nordic design. During EU Open House, we invite you to discover Estonia’s unique blend of tradition and innovation – from our rich cultural heritage to our globally recognized digital society.

This year’s Open House comes at a special moment, as the United States approaches the milestone 250th anniversary of the adoption of the United States Declaration of Independence. Estonia is proud to share in this historic occasion, highlighting the enduring friendship and shared values that connect our nations, as well as the past, present, and future of our relationship.

Throughout the day inside the Embassy:

  • Explore the long-standing partnership and historical ties between Estonia and the United States. Did you know that the world’s longest serving diplomat Ernst Jaakson spent the vast majority of his career in the United States, where he served for decades as Estonia’s Consul in New York? During the Soviet occupation from 1940 to 1991, he played a crucial role in preserving the legal continuity of the Republic of Estonia by maintaining diplomatic representation and advocating for Estonia’s independence on U.S. soil
  • Discover Estonia’s digital society – one of the most advanced in the world – where nearly all public services are available online, and innovation powers everything from startups to national security.
  • Experience why Estonia is known as the “Singing Nation.” Learn about our beloved Estonian Song and Dance Festival, a UNESCO-recognized tradition that brings tens of thousands together in song and dance.
  • Discover the tradition of Estonian national costumes — the clothing of our ancestors. Each piece carries stories of family and parish, shaped and refined across generations. With finely crafted materials, rich colours, and intricate patterns, these garments are a true cultural treasure.
  • … and much more!

We look forward to welcoming you! Whether you’re curious about our distinctive language, history, centuries-old traditions, or vibrant creative scene, there’s something here for everyone.
